Also, Hana and Adrielle have been nominated to receive the National City Masonic Award for Outstanding 6th Grade Students this year! They will be honored and awarded next Friday evening, April 20. They are both examples of overall excellence in youth, and they are very deserving of this award. Congratulations to Hana and Adrielle. See our Citizens Page for more!
You all are encouraged to make the most of your time away from school. Go to new places, create something beautiful, write for personal enjoyment, learn something new on your computer, read good books, play some music, get lots of sleep, try new healthy foods, and SPEND AT LEAST ONE WHOLE DAY with nothing digital at all – especially your phones!
However, if you find yourself with some time, and too much boring TV, please consider working on the following:
Work through all of Chapter 15 in your math book. Do the book work AND memorize the conversions. Maybe even make the Green Slime from the recipe given!
Work on your ELA Standards Projects! These projects are a chance for you to master these standards in a way that is enjoyable for you. Research more, create, dive in deep, share with your partners. You could do some really cool work over break if you decide to.
Work on a little IXL each day! For FIFTH Graders (in any order): A10, B11, B19, B24, B25, I5, J1, J2, K3, K4, L7, *M14, *M15, N14, N15, O4, O7, P5, *Q7 – Q11 For SIXTH Graders: C3, D1, *D2, *G1, I8, K11, L1, L8, M2, O9, P8 – P10, *P13, P16, Q4, **Q5, Q6, R8, R11, R14, R16, S1, S2, *T10, U7, U8, V13, W6, W8, X7, Y1 – Y3, Y9, Z6, Z7, Z12, Z13, Z15, Z23 – Z26, *Z30 – Z32, AA8 – 9, AA11, AA14, BB1 – 5. . . and for fun, master A3!
PI DAY is March 14! (Get it? 3-14?) In honor of PI Day and our 6th graders learning how to use PI, we are having our Second Annual Palmer Way GATE Academy PI Contest on Friday, MARCH 23. The prizes are as follows:
I wanted to give everyone a heads up about an exciting new music program starting in two weeks that is run by San Diego After-School Music Academy. Do you want your kids to really learn music? If so, this program is a must. The current RockStar Music Education experience is great, but I think it’s time we make it bigger, better and more affordable. The upcoming 12-week session will focus on music theory, song writing, computer technology recording and more. Click here to see what it is all about. Don’t worry if it does not open, I will send home a flyer with your child. All this plus your kids get to perform live at the Palmer Way Art Show. We are still working out the numbers, but with fund-raising, we are hoping to get all this for around $125 per session, which is a considerably better deal then we currently have in place. Space will be limited but I want to give past RockStars and the Palmer Way GATE Academy kids the first chance to get enrolled.
There is a tentatively scheduled meeting this Thursday the 16th at 1:05 pm to introduce the program and give parents a chance to ask questions and get more information. Better yet, stop by sooner and see Mr. Crosbie to get a registration form to reserve your spot! I wouldn’t wait too long because spots are limited!
Four new Good Citizens have been honored on the Good Citizens Page (click it to link!) for Mr. Clarken’s Class! Link over to read about them and be inspired to continue to do your best! Good Citizenship is even more important than academic success, and these four show us how to be the best people we can be! Way to go Jaime, Danika, Hana, and Joshua!
